When the website already says authentic Italian cuisine, you know AutenticoItaliano has to try it. Luckly, my agents, after my concert, arranged a dinner.
And what authenticity it is. Reinforcing the fact that Japan remains to many lists the 2nd country after the US for Italian food consumption, this is yet one more excellent kitchen in Tokyo.
Many incredible wines and dishes were ordered at this post concert dinner. 2009 Brunello from Mastroijanni and a 2010 Il Cupole Tentuta di Trinoro. Melanzane di Parmigiana, Risotto made in the wheel of the Gran Padano, Bistecca di Fiorentina and Agnello Scottaditto. And a classic tiramisu. No criticism can be made. This was totally fresh, al dente pasta, tender meet, the lightest marscapone and excellent seasoning and perfect service (as one would expect in Japan, and in addition, the waiter was from Puglia.)
What was particularly interesting was the way the food came to the table. No fuss, simple preparation, focusing on the food itself, not on the presentation, which in Japan is an anomaly, since presentation is half the process. Here was an open kitchen in view, the flame in the center of the Bistecca a beacon of hope for an Italian cuisine that earns attention, rather than seeking it.
In Shibuya, there are many options to eat. And of course, from Bulgari to Enoteca Pinchiorri, the Japanese love brands and famous names. But you can do no wrong at this castello of Italian cucina.
Order with abandon as everything is tasty. The menu varies from north Italian in Piemonte to Toscana to the South. Your only worry will be deciding what to order. And even then, no worries, because no matter what, La Biscboccia, meaning binge in English, will satisfy you beyond your limits.
